Located on the Syrian coast just above Lebanon, Amrit is a rare evocation of the period of Achaemenid Persian control in Syria with its collection of funerary towers, a stadium in the Greek style and a Temple of Melqart which evokes this site’s extraordinary blend of Phoenician, Semitic Persian and Greek influences.
