Dana (South) — the ‘south’ is added to distinguish it from the other village of this name in the Jebel Semaan area — is a thriving modern village around which cluster many remains of an ancient past.
The most prominent surviving monuments are the monastery, dubbed ‘Qasr al-Banat’) on the northwestern edge of the village and the striking tomb with a pyramidal roof and a portico. The tomb lies immediately north of the village.
A second tomb — recorded in the nineteenth century by the French visitor, the Marquis Charles Melchior de Vogüé — has disappeared. وهي غير الدانا الشمالية الواقعة في منطقة جبل سمعان، إنها بلدة حديثة مزدهرة تحيط بها مجموعة من بقايا العصور القديمة. أهم تلك الأوابد الدير المسمى بقصر البنات شمال غرب القرية، والمدفن الفخم المزود بسقف هرمي ورواق شمال القرية. وكان هناك مدفن آخر ذكره ورسمه المؤرخ الفرنسي فوغ في القرن التاسع عشر لكنه اختفى حالياً.
